It's true that a lot of ARGs try to deal more with the (strange) worlds than characters, but there are ARGs that are more character-focused, although, consider they're usually about fragmented psyches.
I would probably suggest:
* alantutorial -- one of the first projects by Alan Resnick about a strange tutorial channel. Another character-focused story by Alan Resnick is "Unedited footage of a bear" on Adult Swim. More choral (but more about world and mystery other than characters) is "This house has people in it", a story about a rather dysfunctional family.
* hiimmarymary -- a girl wakes up in a house she's trapped in and doesn't remember anything
* i am sophie -- I think this project is discontinued but I liked it a lot: it's about this influencer girl and her channel and things that do not fit the narrative
* Daisy Brown about a girl and a strange creature she cares for (I have yet to see this)
